What is mindfulness?
Have you ever had a moment of expansive concentration that came while you were doing something that was ordinary or familiar?

Those moments might have felt purposeful and fulfilling like when jogging or cycling and knowing the whole body and mind was for this moment perfectly in sync, deeply satisfying and beautiful in some way? That is mindfulness. It is when all other thoughts go to the background, and you are fully alive, not just to the task but to your body, mind and the environment.  This fully being present can become yours by choice and by training in mindfulness. The coming into the present in this mindfull way allows the compartments of our life and mind to integrate and feel clearer, our emotions to become positive.

In mindfulness we give up trying to stop or flee our torrent of thoughts and emotions, and choose instead to observe them. We can – with training – develop the habit of letting thoughts pass without attaching to them or pushing them away. This allows feelings of peace and calm to arise.

Meditation is the most concentrated form of mindfulness. In meditation it is possible to learn to hold our awareness on an object such as our breath, and allow feelings and thoughts to arise and evaporate while we are aware of them but not driven by them.

Course:

Mindfulness

For Living

A Six Week Course In Mindfulness

Mindfulness for Living is a practical course in mindfulness, helping us learn how to find more enjoyment, vibrancy and depth in the midst of life - even in a busy modern life.

No previous experience of mindfulness or meditation is needed.

We start with simple supportive conditions then each week introduce another aspect such as awareness of the body, feelings, thoughts, beauty, other people and ultimately the nature of life itself.

The course is very practical - the emphasis is on things you can do that really make a difference. Each week you'll get new things to try - ways to apply mindfulness to your everyday life. Finding more enjoyment in your daily commute, turning washing up into a "mindful moment", handling difficult conversations without getting heated.
